first_imgAny initiative by a Port, Terminal Operator, Tourism Board, Attraction, Tour Operator, Ships Agent – or even port association or government – now has a realistic opportunity of winning an award because the criteria by which awards entries are considered has changed.Now any action, any initiative that is considered deserving of recognition qualifies whether it is a port or destination – large or small. Or any action by those businesses that deliver services. Or initiatives by port associations or governments to enhance the cruise offer.Regardless of the number of cruise ship calls you simply need to demonstrate that you have introduced a worthy enhancement to the cruise product.The enhancement can cost virtually nothing due to a change in process or procedure – or it can result from a significant investment that has increased berthing capacity. Any activity that has resulted in an improvement or enhancement qualifies – these could relate to:Operating Procedures – standardisation, improvement, implementationShore excursion enhancements – new products targeting different consumer demographics, revisions of existing products, cruise line interaction, etc.Investment / Development Planning – facility development, cruise and port facilities, venues, PPP incentives, etc.Training & Development – consumer market, travel agent, stakeholders, etc.Marketing – boosting cruise line and/or destination level value through programmesMonitoring & Benchmarking – setting performance indicators for passenger and cruise line satisfactionIntroduction of technology, new processes, etc. to improve cruise tourismThis means that next year’s awards will be given for any action – large or small – by a port or destination, attraction or tour operator or ship agent, or port association or government initiative to attract cruise business.If you are a port or business new to the industry you are not exempt – you simply have to believe that you deserve recognition for what you have done to reach out to the cruise lines.Submissions will be considered by a panel of industry professionals prior to a final selection by a recognised cruise industry executive.
